Baidoa, (insidesomalia.org) - Reports from the commercial town of Baidoa some 245km from the Somali capital Mogadishu say that there has been heavy battle in the town between forces loyal for the Islamic group of Al-Shabab and government soldiers.
Both the warring sides exchanged different sorts of armaments, including rocket propel grenades, mortars, cannon, and other related arms.
The fight started in the mid of last night and the residents of Baidoa town could hardly go to sleep due to the earsplitting sounds made by the guns.
The ears of the inhabitants of have never ever heard such sounds of weapons apart from occasional explosion which were normally targeted at the Ethiopian troops and government officials.
The Al-Shabab forces entered the town from the airport direction and fired uncountable mortars into the airport and the temporary parliament of the Transitional federal Government of Somalia which not far from the airport.
The airport is one of the places where the Ethiopian troops in Baidoa are stationed.
Almost 8 government soldiers having wounded in the battle of overnight were this morning taken to Baidoa main hospital for treatment, and the losses sustained by the Ethiopian soldiers is not yet manifest.
The dawn state of Baidoa town is cool this morning and the daybreak tęte-ŕ-tęte was nothing other than the skirmish of overnight.
This confrontation is in fact the first of its kind to happen in face to face in Baidoa town, but the Al-Shabab forces have several times raided Ethiopian and Somali government bases in the capital and some other regions in the country.
